With hoes, rubber boots and lots of enthusiasm: In July, the starting signal for the 2025 planting season was given at Hacienda El Dorado as part of the COBIGA project.
Together with 18 dedicated biology students from the University of Ljubljana, 371 trees from 39 different species were planted! 🌳💧
The area is an extension of last year’s zone—this time with a varied mix of flatter and steeper sections.
By November, around 1,500 more trees are set to follow, spread across a wide range of areas on Hacienda El Dorado. Especially exciting: Near the lagoon, 17 vegetation islands are planned—small, targeted habitats for birds and other animals. 🐦🌱
These “islands” provide food, shelter and places to retreat—soon to be complemented by the new observation tower (rancho), which will give visitors a unique view into these tropical habitats. 👀🌴
This year’s plantings are, as always, accompanied by intensive care for last year’s trees—with great success:
🌟 Only 0.9% mortality among last year’s young trees!
A strong sign that our approach works and the area is turning into a healthy forest. 🌳
