For over 15 years, the Rainforest Runs have combined exercise, fun, and real climate protection. The principle is simple: after a short presentation about the rainforest, the children and young people find their own sponsors—parents, grandparents, friends—and then run as many laps as possible. Every lap raises money for the protection of the Costa Rican rainforest and enables reforestation on cleared land.
💚 The 2025 result (so far): A record!
6 schools & kindergartens have already taken part: VS Pfeilgasse, Mary Poppins Kindergarten, Josefstädter Straße Kindergarten, OMS Pfeilgasse, BGRG8 Albertgasse, and GRG5 Rainergasse. 1,350 children ran—full of enthusiasm and motivation. Together, they “raised” an incredible €17,000—and that’s just in the first half of the year!
This already makes 2025 an absolute record year. Another Rainforest Run will follow in the autumn at the Rainergymnasium lower school—we are excited to see what heights we can still reach!
🌱 Every (square) meter counts
The donations go directly into the purchase and protection of threatened rainforest as well as the reforestation of former fallow land. In this way, separated forest areas are reconnected step by step—an important contribution to climate protection and biodiversity in southern Costa Rica.
👩🏫 A call to schools and teaching staff
The success shows: with school activities like the Rainforest Runs, children and young people can make a tangible difference and be sustainably sensitized to nature conservation. 🎓💪
